"Queer Day "

It's the year 41 after Stonewall,..I think.

Swell.

Let's see the Queer Revolution has devolved into a cute safe reformist movement full of calm liberals, and republicans. Actually more republicans than I ever imagined. This judging by the number of far rightwing politicians getting caught in airport shit houses with their pants down.

What the hell this is the fate of all radical movements that make any progress. The get absorbed by the mainstream. All the stuff that made them interesting, and dangerous is chopped off.

Being a serious pervert I got chopped off.

So Stonewall day means nothing to me, and hasn't for decades. I mean what with homophiles joining with assorted moralists to put my sort in jail where we'd get a shiv in our kidney before dark on the first day.

I feel like Tom Paine must have when he at last realized that the American Revolution wasn't what he thought it was. The land still belonged to the gentry, and the slaves were still in chains.

Humm.

Still a party's a party. Like the Saint Patrick Day Parade which was also once a radical act. The Gay,..nolonger Queer, Pride Day March is still worth a song, and a drink.

...for some.

Harry Hay is 'still' my Hero. He 'never' betrayed or abandoned the faith.

Because that type ultimately get us nowhere.

Back in 1994 I got dragged to the gay parade by two dear (and beautiful) Mexican friends. They were recent arrivals and wanted to see it so after going to the flea-markets over on 25-26th streets we walked back to fifth.

There was a modest crowd and several families including one with two boys and a girl right next to us. They were typical Village/Chelsea types and no doubt Liberal. Their kids waved cheered at the usual stuff Dykes on Bikes etc, but then along comes a large float consisting of a prop boulder with two guys gagged and chained to it with some creep pretending to whip them.

Everyone got a bit quiet and I saw the parents patting their kids on the shoulders as they looked a bit upset by this scene.

This display of stuff that is best kept behind closed doors did some damage.

Lino, I wish you would be kept behind closed doors where you couldn't do any damage.
