"Teenie Weenies"

I just love sitting here all alone watching my Santa clock. (upper right) I quietly, patiently note the little blue, and red christmas presents move around, and around, and around as eternity slowly ticks away.

There are moments when I wonder just what's in those tiny, little sweetly rapped box's. Perhaps they're for the "Teeny Weenies". Remember them? Well for the youngsters out there the Teenie Weenies were a comic strip from the 1900's that was still around when I was a kid in the 50's, and early 60's.

These folks was tiny people that lived right beneath our nose's. Their house's were tin cans, old shoes or cigar box's. They had themselves a swell tiny time. My Mom especially liked them when she was little, and introduced them to me.

I guess that's why I believe's in Angels, Faeries, and stuff. Anyway I figure if I sit here long enuff maybe some of them little folks will show up to get their presents. I'll let ya know. For now,...shhhhh.

(Please click on the teenies to have a good look at 'em. Also remember these were drawn nearly a century ago. Some of the art my offend our advanced sensibilities,...right.) ***almost forgot. See the "Teenie Weenies" link on right.

I am straining my brain to remember the Teenie Weenies-- I'm surprised I never ran across them back when I was addicted to antique shops, flea markets etc... I would look at everything in the toys and comics areas.

thank you for posting about them.

When I was a kid I loved reading "The Borrowers" series of books--(about teenie people living in the walls of a house in England)

The "Teenie Weenies" were in the sunday funnies. (see the link for possible details) In NYC I think these swell little folks was in the Journal American, and later maybe the Brooklyn Eagle.

Yeah the same Brooklyn Eagle that fired Walt Whitman 'cause he was too weird. Being he was not only "that way",...but Worse!

The guy was an Abolishionist as well! Imagine!

I walso remember The Teeny Weenies. The books & film of "The Borrowers" certainly "borrowed" the concept. The Sunday Seattle Post Intelligencer comics would have a "life-size" figure each week you could "have Mother cut out" for you, then glue it to cardboard to stand it up. I saw a book of them at Fillippi's Rare Books back in the 70's, but I'd have rathered something about Notary Sojac....which reminds me, wasn't "Our Boarding House run by Roscoe Turner's pal & his sister?

I collect the little folks, and haven't run across the "TWs Are Invited To Lunch" strip. I run a blog dedicated to them at Drop by!

Drop by and download hi-res TW strips suitable for printing.

For some reason The Teenie Weenies came to mind a little while ago, so I googled them - and was so happy to see someone else remembered them from childhood! I saw them in the 1950s as a child before we moved from Long Island NY to Levittown PA. I don't remember the paper they were in, but it might have been The Mirror.. I'm not sure if we were able to get the NY paper once we moved.
